Asthma

Restoring Breath and Lung Vitality in Chronic Asthma

Symptoms:

Patient “P” had suffered from congenital asthma since childhood. Even light exercise could trigger shortness of breath, and he needed to carry an inhaler at all times. His lungs felt tight and heavy, as if he could never take a full breath.

Our Approach:

We began with treatments to open the Lung meridian and clear stagnation along the Du meridian, using a combination of acupuncture, electro-qigong therapy, and meridian activation techniques. Over time, his lung capacity improved significantly, breathing became smoother, and dependence on the inhaler decreased.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, asthma and respiratory tension often arise when the Du meridian (the body’s “central channel”) becomes blocked, especially by exposure to cold, heat, or irritant gases. These factors cause inflammation and swelling in the bronchi and alveoli, making it difficult for oxygen to circulate through the microcapillaries.
Prolonged exposure to harmful substances—such as smoke, pollution, or radon—can damage the lungs and overload the liver’s detox system, leading to chronic stagnation and poor circulation.

Healing Progress:

Through regular sessions, the patient experienced steady improvement: lung expansion increased, chest tightness eased, and deep breathing no longer triggered wheezing. With consistent care, his vital energy (Qi) began to flow more freely, strengthening both the Lung and Liver systems and restoring the natural rhythm of breath.

Results:

  • Noticeable reduction in asthma symptoms.

  • Improved lung strength and endurance during physical activity.

  • Decreased reliance on the inhaler.

  • Better overall energy and clarity of breath.

Holistic Insight:

In the language of holistic healing, asthma is not only a condition of the lungs — it also reflects a feeling of suffocation in life itself. Many people with chronic asthma grew up in environments of overcontrol or conditional love, where emotional expression was restricted.
This “emotional constriction” mirrors the physical constriction of the lungs: an inability to breathe freely, to express, to expand.

True healing begins when the body and mind learn to relax, trust, and let go of control. Alongside treatment, we guided the patient to cultivate gentler breath awareness, release emotional pressure, and support the parasympathetic nervous system — activating the body’s natural ability to relax and restore.
As inner balance returned, breathing became not only easier, but a daily reminder of life’s rhythm — inhale trust, exhale release.
